It is weird for me to have my husband here and not deployed or getting read to deploy. I am very grateful for the fact he is home with us but I know he wants to be as he says back in the "real army" and over there with his friends. It is so rare these days to have your husband home. I knew when I married him over 4 years ago the army life of today is different than the army life from when I was a child with my father and he went TDY for a few days and yes deployed to Desert Storm but only for less than a year and only one time. You just do such a fantastic job expressing how we all feel. And since my body is raging with hormomes these days, I cry on the spot everytime I see anything about deployments or anything about what is going on and just thinking about all the families that are being affected each and everyday but it is not a saddness cry it is cry because I know most of the people in this country and elsewhere just do not get what it means to be part of the military life and what our soldiers go through and why the CHOSE to do it! Thanks so much Megan for putting everything into words. Now print your blog out and give it to the lady and walk away smiling! I knew when I married C that he was career - in it for the long haul. I accepted that - and have to REaccept it every day. There is nothing easy about it but it is who he is and who I am. We support each other through it - we both believe in it.

Thanks so much for your comment! Please continue to share so that others can see what it is like! "There's no way I could ever let my husband do that." " I don't understand how you can stand it." and more and more. It is a sacrifice, but it is one that we have chosen. I told my husband before we were married that I understood and I would never blame him or leave him for doing his job. There are so many who simply will never understand!

Your writing is thought-provoking, insightful, and touching. Keep up the good work!

RenéeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
